日之影キャンプ場から見立よりに3km、「石垣の村」戸川は日之影町内を東西に流れる日之影川沿いの山間にひっそりとたたずむ戸数7戸の静かな集落です。
宮崎県最古の出羽洞穴の下流、新畑洞穴のすぐそばに位置するこの村の歴史は古く、誰もその定かな歴史を知りません。
石垣は、宅地・耕地造成、石蔵、防風垣と村全体を形成し、村とともに歴史を刻んできた、まさに7戸代々の村人の芸術作品であり文化的遺産です。
村の唯一の歴史の記録は、長老等の昔話と石垣に刻まれた文字です。

（As the name suggests, Hinokage’s Village of Stone Walls (‘Ishigaki Mura’) is home to numerious structures constructed from stone and rock. These structures include everything from the walls that support the arigricultural fields and farmhouses that run up the side of the valley to the walls of the farmhouses and barns themselves. The oldest wall is said to have been constructed in the mid-nineteenth century, and villagers claim that they were intended to prevent fires that could easily destroy an entire village of wood structures. Today the Village of Stone Walls is valued as an important cultural and artistic achievement, and continues to wear its name proudly.）
